How-To Set Your Prices 4/16/09
This article is a guide on how to set your prices for your yard greeting business. If you shop around online you'll need to be careful about what area(s) you are researching.  Since there can be a 20% difference in prices throughout the country, and even your own state.  As with any business, you'll want to make the optimum amount of money that you can.

Setting your own unique prices is ultimately YOUR decision. But here are some suggestions to get your started.

You'll need to so some shopping around. Either via phone or internet and get some information.

If there are currently any yard greeting business in your area what are they charging? A single day rental? Additional Day Rentals?
What do they charge for stork rentals (which is usually different then other yard greetings)?
Do they offer customized keepsake with their stork rental, or baby announcement?
Can you add additional critters for an additional charge? how much?
What are your competitions selections? Is it large? Are they quality signs?
What time do they set up and take down?
How do they accept payment?
Do they have a website? (Statistics show that a business with a website (especially a quality website)), has better sales.

You will want to be comparable in prices. You might think you'll be just a bit lower in price then your competition so you'll get the business instead of them. You'll think it's a good idea until someone does it to you. I'll advise you NOT to do that, it causes price deterioration in your area.

A little competition is a good thing. It let's your city know that businesses like yours exist. As long as your city is not saturated with this type of business, there is usually enough business for everyone.

So, set your prices comparable to other businesses around you, and offer signs that are unique and offer good service.

Suggestions to set your business apart.

- If possible add more critters to the displays you offer at no additional charge.
- Have a larger selection of yard themes.
- Have a quality, hassle free website. All the information in one place, easy to shop, so they know what they are getting.
- Always return phone calls promptly, and always have someone to answer your phone. (Many sales are lost because of unanswered phone calls.)
- Offer add-ons like mylar balloons or helium balloons. That you can attach to the yard greeting.
- Offer to sell one critter as a keep-sake item for the "victim" of the display.
